Job summary

The Washington Ballet is seeking a part-time, seasonal School Accompanist for the NW Campus to provide live piano accompaniment for ballet and related dance classes. The role requires excellent sight-reading, improvisation, and a broad classical repertoire, with the ability to adapt to varied teaching styles and collaborate with faculty.

Qualifications

• Professional experience accompanying ballet classes or rehearsals is preferred.
• Ability to accompany ballet classes for varied age groups and levels.
• Excellent sight-reading and improvisation skills for live accompaniment.
• Strong understanding of ballet class structure and terminology.

Responsibilities

• Accompany ballet classes for Pre-Ballet through Upper Division, Trainee, and Adult Programs as assigned.
• Collaborate with faculty to provide music aligned with class objectives.
• Adjust tempo, dynamics, phrasing, and selections to instructional needs.
• Improvise to support combinations and classroom instruction.
• Arrive prepared and on time for classes and rehearsals.
• Maintain professional communication with faculty, supervisors, and staff.
• Attend accompanist meetings or trainings as requested.
