Job summary

Pratt Industries, Inc. is seeking an entry-level operator for Hogger, Baler and Slitter operations on the 2nd shift (2pm-10pm). Starting pay is $19.50 per hour with shift differential and full-time benefits from day one.

The role includes operating machinery, keeping bale records, and contributing to safety and efficiency initiatives within a large recycled containerboard producer. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to read a tape measure.

Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent (Required).
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to apply basic math and measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Hogger, Slitter, and related equipment safely.
  • Make good, neat bales and operate forklift to load trailers.
  • Maintain bale reports and daily waste data.
  • Record inventories of bale wire, dunnage and scrap bales.
  • Turn in maintenance work orders and support equipment upkeep.

Entry level position starting at $19.50 per hour plus shift differential.

Shift: 2nd (2pm-10pm)

Job type: Full time

Summary:

Responsible for all activities associated with safely running the Hogger, Baler & Slitter machines including operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Make good, neat bales.
  • Operate Hogger and hog up all unusable paper and corrugated scrap.
  • Maintain accurate bale reports.
  • Record accurate waste data and fill out daily waste documents.
  • Maintain inventories of bale wire, dunnage and scrap bales.
  • Operate a forklift in a safe manner.
  • Load trailers and complete Straight Bill of Ladings.
  • Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist with Sustainability Initiatives.
  • Operate Slitter to cut waste sheets to usable sizes.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
Education/Experience:

High school or equivalent (Required)

Mathematical Skills

Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills
  • The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:
  • Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
  • Product layouts and production specifications
  • Product quality specifications
  • Quality standards
Certificates:

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Language Skills:

Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
