Job summary

GreenStar Co-op in Ithaca, NY is seeking a motivated bakery team member to prepare breads and pastries, assist customers, restock displays, and maintain clean, organized stations. You will join a community-owned cooperative and work with the Bakery Manager to deliver high-quality goods and friendly service.

Responsibilities include assisting customers, producing baked goods per daily lists, stocking, maintaining cleanliness, and following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Prior production baking and decorating experience required.

• Motivation, initiative and reliability in a fast-paced bakery.
• Interest in natural foods and local vendors/farms preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, courteous manner.
• Work independently and as part of a team to maintain a welcoming bakery space.
• Participate in trainings, meetings, and huddles to stay informed.
• Know the bakery products and assist with special orders.
• Prepare bakery offerings based on daily production lists and recipes.
• Prepare breads and pastries following established recipes; maintain clean work areas.
• Stock and rotate displays; receive and stock ingredients and supplies.
• Ensure sanitary storage, labeling, and storage procedures; follow health standards.
• Follow safety rules and participate in safety trainings; report hazards and unsafe equipment.
• Attend storewide trainings and support onboarding of new staff.

Status:

Level II, Support Staff, Supervised by Bakery Manager

Responsibilities:

CUSTOMER SERVICE

• Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
• Ability to work independently while also working as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
• Participate in customer service trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
• Knowledgeable about all Bakery products.
• Help customers place special orders.

PRODUCTION BAKING

• Prepare bakery offerings based on daily productions lists to provide both variety and consistency
• Assist in researching and developing new recipes.
• Prepare breads and pastries according to established recipes.
• Clean and maintain work areas, utensils, and equipment.
• Bring day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies to the management team.
• Complete production sheets and other records as required.
• May be required to prepare baked goods for special diets.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

STOCKING & MERCHANDISING

• Replenish and rotate displays.
• Receive and stock ingredients and other supplies as needed.
• Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods appropriately (compost whenever possible).
• Remove trash, clean cases, keep prep and storage areas clean and orderly.
• Label products with appropriate PLU, and allergens.

DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

• Assist in ensuring food prep and storage areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition meeting health department standards.
• Follow department guidelines for proper storage and labeling procedures.
• Assist in maintaining department equipment in working order.
• Follow department guidelines for proper lifting techniques.
• Be mindful of potential hazards to customers and employees. Report potential hazards to management.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow GreenStar’s safety rules.
• Assist other employees in safety needs.
• Report unsafe equipment and conditions.
• Participate in safety training programs, assist with accident investigation.
• Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES

• Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
• Support on-the-job training of new staff.
• Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
• Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
• Adhere to scheduled shifts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
