Job summary

Weis Markets seeks a friendly Bakery Associate in Gettysburg, PA to keep the bakery stocked, greet customers, suggest products, and take orders in person or by phone. You’ll help set up displays, write on cakes, and assist with production of breads and pastries as needed.

You’ll ensure items are fresh, properly priced with clear signage, and maintain sanitation and safety standards. Team collaboration and adaptability are key to succeeding in this role at Weis Markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED in progress or completed.
• No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Keeps bakery department stocked and appealing; greets customers, makes suggestions, answers questions about products; resolves customer concerns promptly and courteously.
• Takes customer orders over the phone or in person, determines size, flavor, and appearance of items.
• Sets up special-order tables during peak hours; sets bakery cases and builds displays; may write on cakes.
• Ensures merchandise is fresh, properly priced with signage; handles spoiled or close-to-expiration product per procedures.
• May assist with production of breads, pastries; follows production logs and approved recipes.
• Maintains general sanitation; follows cleaning schedules; ensures health and OSHA standards; disposes trash properly.
• May assist with receiving/unloading/breaking-down/storing deliveries; trained on equipment.
• Assists in minimizing shrink and damages; reports shortages or overages to manager.
• Cooperates with coworkers and supervisors to ensure smooth department and store operation; adheres to PPE guidelines.
• May assist in other departments as needed.

Job Description

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Keeps bakery department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand. Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions, answers questions about various products. Helps resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
• Takes customer orders over the phone or in person at the store with a pleasant and positive attitude. Determines what the customer is looking for in terms of size, flavor, and appearance.
• Sets up special-order tables during peak hours and shopping days. Sets bakery cases and builds displays as needed. May also be required to write on cakes.
• Ensures that merchandise is fresh, in saleable condition and properly priced with the correct signage. Handles spoiled and damaged product, or product that is close to expiration, according to company procedures and standards. Removes product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
• May assist with the production of breads, pastries and other baked goods to sell. Adheres to use of production logs and company approved recipes.
• Responsible for general sanitation in the department. Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Disposes of trash properly.
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack (if properly trained –training provided).
• May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained. Training provided.
• Assists in minimizing shrink and controlling damages. Reports shortages or overages to manager.
• Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors. Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
• Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). Including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear, etc.
• May also be called upon to assist in other departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities.
