Job summary

Associated Food Stores is seeking a Bakery Manager to lead the Bakery Department in planning, organization, and direction of daily operations. You will cost out materials to set retail prices and develop a master production sheet to ensure efficient production.

You will also develop and mentor department staff through ongoing training and evaluations, teaching the essentials of bakery production from mixing to finishing.

• Teach fundamentals of bakery production: mixing, scaling, proofing, baking, frying and finishing.
• Plan merchandising programs for increased sales and assist with cross-merchandising with other departments.
• Maintain department labor and inventory controls in line with budgets.
• Ensure department security per company policy.
• Monitor competitive activity and protect company interests through sound judgment.
• Handle receiving, storing, pricing and merchandising of bakery products.
• Maintain coordination with other departments for smooth flow of products and service.
• Keep adequate department records.

Job description

Wage range $23.60-$26.22 per hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

• A Bakery Manager will assist in the planning, organization, and direction of the activities of the Bakery Department.
• Know and have the ability to cost out all material to determine proper retails.
• Know and have the ability to do a master production sheet.
• Aid in the development and growth of all department personnel by insuring regular implementation of company training, evaluation, and counselling procedures.
• Possess sufficient knowledge and ability to teach others all fundamentals of bakery production. This will include mixing, scaling, proofing, baking, frying and finishing.
• A Bakery Manager will plan aggressive merchandising programs for increased sales. Assist management with cross merchandising ideas with other departments.
• Assist in maintaining effective control of department labor and inventory in line with established budgets and guidelines.
• Assist in maintaining effective department security in compliance with company policy and directives.
• Maintain an awareness of competitive activity within the store marketing areas at all times as it relates to the Bakery Department. Also, maintain awareness and concern for the company's interest and investment at all times through the regular practice of sound, honest judgement.
• Conduct the receiving, storing, pricing and merchandising of all bakery products.
• A Bakery Manager will maintain a high level of coordination and communication with other departments to ensure a smooth flow of products and service throughout the store and within the bakery operation.
• Maintain adequate and appropriate department records at all times.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to hot or cold conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries. Also requires standing, walking and bending throughout the entire workday and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 30 pounds from location to location.
