Job summary

Levain Bakery in New York is seeking a dedicated Baker to produce bread, cakes, cookies and other goods according to Levain recipes and standards, while maintaining quality and consistency. You will follow mixing, shaping and timing guidelines to ensure products meet high standards.

Work with a collaborative team to monitor temperatures, manage daily pars, and keep the bakery environment welcoming for customers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1-2 years of baking experience.
• Open availability: mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must lift 50 pounds and stand for 8 hours.
• Read and communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
• Must have valid DOH Certification and regional food handlers’ certifications.

Responsibilities

• Bake bread, cakes, muffins, cookies and other baked goods to Levain standards.
• Monitor weights, measures and temperatures to ensure quality.
• Maintain cleanliness and ensure health compliance in the store.
• Manage inventory and daily pars to meet demand.
• Interact with customers occasionally while maintaining a welcoming bakery.
• Communicate effectively with team and management.

Operations

Baking and Preparation

• Bake bread, cakes, muffins, cookies, and other baked goods according to Levain Bakery’s recipes and standards
• Measure, mix, weigh, shape, and prepare various products, ensuring proper consistency and following specific techniques and guidelines
• Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure products are baked to perfection
• Manage daily pars to ensure all baked goods meet quality standards and customer demands

Quality Control

• Monitor product quality and freshness and ensure proper FIFO standards are followed
• Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
• Ensure all baked goods meet Levain Bakery’s quality standards
• Regularly check on ingredients and finished products to maintain consistency
• Spot check finished products: taste, smell, feel, and assess overall visual consistency

Store Compliance

• Understand compliance with health department regulations and baking standards
• Arrive to station on time, in uniform, and ready to work
• Work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings

Inventory & Ordering Management

• Ensure baking ingredients are appropriately stocked using FIFO (first in, first out) processes
• Follow department procedures for preparing, storing, rotating, and stocking of product

Requirements

• Minimum 1-2 years of baking experience
• Open availability: ability to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to lift/push 50 pounds
• Stand/walk for an 8-hour shift (excluding a ½ hour break); some locations require walking up and down stairs
• Read and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
• Utilize basic computer skills (Email, Microsoft Office)
• Must have valid DOH Certification & additional regional required food handlers’ certifications
