Job summary

Safeway in Daly City is seeking a Baker to prepare breads, pastries, cakes, and desserts, using established recipes to ensure quality. You will measure, mix, shape, and bake products, decorate cakes, and keep the bakery clean and organized.

You will interact with customers, take special orders, and help create a positive shopping experience in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

As a Baker, each day brings a variety of tasks focused on preparing fresh, high‑quality baked goods for customers. You’ll prepare breads, pastries, cakes, and desserts using established recipes and production methods while ensuring consistency and quality. You will measure, mix, shape, and bake products, as well as decorate items such as cakes and specialty desserts.

You’ll prepare breads, pastries, cakes, and desserts using established recipes and production methods while ensuring consistency and quality. You will measure, mix, shape, and bake products, as well as decorate items such as cakes and specialty desserts.

Throughout the day, you’ll organize and maintain a clean, safe work area, rotate and label ingredients, and ensure products are displayed in full, well‑stocked, and visually appealing cases. You’ll partner closely with bakery team members to plan daily production needs and keep operations running smoothly.

Customer interaction is also part of the role—you’ll assist customers with product questions, take special orders, and help create a positive experience through friendly and efficient service. This role operates in a fast‑paced environment where consistency, organization, and attention to detail help ensure product quality and customer satisfaction.

What You Bring To The Table

• Customer Service Skills: Ability to provide friendly, timely, and helpful service while following up on customer requests and questions
• Baking & Production Knowledge: Experience preparing breads, pastries, and desserts using recipes, measurements, and baking techniques
• Attention to Detail: Ability to follow recipes accurately and maintain quality, consistency, and presentation standards
• Organization & Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, follow production schedules, and maintain a clean and orderly workspace
• Food Safety Awareness: Familiarity with proper food handling, sanitation practices, and safety procedures
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work independently and with others to drive daily bakery operations
• Adaptability: Comfort working in a fast‑paced environment with changing production needs
• Technical & Equipment Use: Ability to safely operate mixers, ovens, and bakery equipment following established guidelines
• Physical Capability: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move items, and work in varying temperature environments (ovens, coolers, freezers)
