Job summary

King’s Hawaiian Bakery West, Inc is seeking a packaging machine operator to run the bagging/wrapping line, set up equipment, and ensure product quality on a daily schedule.

You will conduct quality checks, document results, and participate in sanitation and safety programs, complying with GMP and OSHA requirements. Overtime and shift flexibility are required as production needs change.

This position will require an individual who takes pride and ownership in his/her work, and is willing to accept total responsibility for the performance of the packaging machine operation on his/her shift. Primary duties include safely performing a wide range of tasks that include all activities associated with, equipment set-up, conducting quality checks, troubleshooting equipment issues and maintain documentation on manufacturing processes to comply with organization and regulatory standards. This individual must possess good equipment assembly undersdtanding and be able to demonstrate their ability to troubleshoot to produce quality product at levels that will allow the plant to meet or exceed its goals and objectives. Operate equipment to optimum efficiencies to meet quality, cost and operational requirements of daily schedules. Track all product and packaging going to and going from bagger line to ensure material availability. Must be able to interpret and follow process specifications to ensure the product and packaging meets quality standards. Reduce packaging and product waste by operating equipment efficiently. Complete sanitation of line and equipment as needed/directed. Such as but not limited to, cleaning of slicer blades, bagger blow out, and other equipment consisting of the packing of finished goods. Improve production efficiencies through training, equipment recommendations and communications with foreman and supervisor. Knowledge of bagging specifications, ranges, targets to meet quality standards. Sets up machine to specified settings. Adjust controls as necessary to maintain the proper product specifications. Perform machine and product changeovers accurately in standard allocated time for individual lines. Start equipment from control panel and observe lights and dials to verify that panel and equipment is functioning. Tend numerically controlled equipment that automatically bags or wraps baked product into packaging materials and secures them closed. Inspects sections of bagging or wrapping equipment, such as conveyors, and clip closure machines to verify that equipment is clean. Puts finished product on scales to verify the weight of the product is scaled per specifications. Informs QA and supervisor if product in not meeting specifications. Load wickets of bags into bagger machines. Load rolls of clips onto kwik-lok machines. Documents data into Quality Assurance Forms / SPC system to completion accurately. Record waste and down time data on Redzone application via iPad. Drive department huddles for Redzone as needed. Monitors the product for the desired specifications and quality. Notifies the foreman and supervisor when the product is out of specification. Maintains log sheets as necessary that are required for Quality Assurance. Complete required production paperwork to accurately calculate run time, efficiencies and cases produced (Redzone). Weights and records all rejects onto forms. Transports waste to recycle collection. Responsible for metal detector checks and logging results to proper FSQS forms. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor and maintenance personnel. Follow production policies and procedures. This includes Employee handbook, GMP’s, Food Safety, HACCP, and any other designated company procedures. Follow all company workplace safety policies and procedures as per OSHA regulations. (i.e. Food Defense Plan, LOTO). Maintain a high level of sanitation and GMP's by ensuring that work areas are clean and that Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) are fully complied with by sweeping and wiping down equipment. Performs other duties in packaging as necessary. Assists in training of new employees or employees who change job classifications. Responsible for the Quality and Food Safety functions within designated department and as assigned by management and the Quality Department. Promote safety in the work area by understanding and complying with safety procedures and reporting all accidents in a timely manner regardless of the severity. More specifically, the incumbent may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from those set forth above. Skills/Work Experience: High School Diploma or GED Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate orally and fill out production and quality assurance reports in English. Ability to understand basic math. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals written in English Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint proficient. Ability to work safely and comply with all safety regulations. Ability to operate various manufacturing equipment, follow specific direction, and other duties as assigned. Required to work daily overtime, weekend work and various shifts depending on your position. Successfully earn Lockout/Tagout(LOTO) certification provided by Company.
