Job summary

Resource Management Concepts, Inc. is seeking a Backup Systems Engineer to join on-site at NIWC Pacific Old Town Campus in San Diego, CA. You will design data protection strategies, harden Commvault configurations, and support backup operations across enterprise systems.

The role requires 8+ years in backup platforms (Commvault preferred), 5+ years Windows Server, VMware experience, PowerShell scripting, and an active Secret clearance. Travel OCONUS up to three times per year is expected.

Backup Systems Engineer Location: NIWC Pacific Old Town Campus, San Diego, CA Position Type: Full-time, on-site Clearance: Active Secret clearance or higher

Resource Management Concepts, Inc. (RMC) delivers high-quality management and technology solutions to government and commercial clients, supporting the protection and preservation of our nation's people and environment. As a Backup Systems Engineer, you'll support mission-critical national defense work by engineering and improving enterprise-scale Commvault solutions. You'll collaborate across technology teams, contribute to cloud, automation, and datacenter modernization, and provide hands‑on engineering, documentation, training, and technical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Design and document data protection strategies and hardened Commvault configurations.
• Support backup operations and collaborate with engineers and solution owners.
• Maintain runbooks, procedures, architecture documentation, and operational metrics.
• Contribute to cloud, automation, and datacenter modernization efforts.
• Provide Commvault expertise and technical training.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Active Secret clearance or higher.
• 8+ years administering enterprise backup platforms, primarily Commvault.
• 5+ years supporting Windows Server environments.
• 2+ years supporting VMware vSphere and developing PowerShell scripts.
• Experience with Commvault or Rubrik at scale, backup security, and networking fundamentals.
• IAT Level II certification and an Operating Environment certification, if required by the contract or client.
• Ability to meet the client's on-site schedule and travel OCONUS up to approximately three times per year.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commvault, VMware, or Microsoft certifications.
• Experience with disaster recovery, storage platforms, tape libraries, key management, or Azure/AWS backup.
• CISSP or SSCP certification.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or a related field.

Work Requirements

This role is based on-site at NIWC Pacific; remote candidates are not being considered. OCONUS travel is typically one to three weeks per trip, up to approximately three times per year, and planned in advance.

Salary at RMC is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, a candidate's specific combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific requirements. The current salary range for this position will be $120,000 to $155,000 (annually).
