Job summary

Booz Allen Hamilton is seeking a Backup Systems Engineer to design, deploy, and support enterprise backup and recovery systems for the U.S. Navy.

You will translate Navy requirements into technical specifications and document best‑practice data protection strategies using Commvault, with hardened installation procedures. The role demands hands‑on experience with Commvault, Rubrik, Veeam, and Windows Server, plus VMware vSphere and cloud integration.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience developing and administering enterprise backup platforms (Commvault, CommCell, media agents, deduplication, encryption, immutability)
• 5+ years of experience supporting Windows Server networks (AD, DNS/DHCP, VSS, storage services) in production
• 2+ years of experience operating VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter, VM backups/restores, CBT, app‑consistent backups)
• 2+ years of PowerShell scripting for automation
• Experience administering Commvault or Rubrik at scale (multi‑site, multi‑tenant, diverse workloads)
• Experience with documentation (runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, operational metrics)
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals for backup networks (routing, VLANs, firewalls)
• Secret clearance
• HS diploma or GED
• DoD 8570.11 IAT Level II certification such as CompTIA Security+ CE, CISSP, or SSCP

Backup Systems Engineer

Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your technical skills with big picture thinking to design, deploy, and support enterprise backup and recovery systems for the U.S. Navy? You will develop a strong understanding of the customer’s environment and how to engineer the right data protection solutions for their mission. Your ability to translate real‑world needs into technical specifications makes you an integral part of delivering a customer‑focused engineering solution. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Backup Systems Engineer with deep hands‑on expertise administering Commvault and supporting Windows Server, VMware vSphere and Azure environments. The ideal candidate is an analytical problem solver who is comfortable with complex technical challenges spanning client and server infrastructure. You will be looked to as a go‑to resource for troubleshooting, optimization, and resilient recovery design in a fast‑paced enterprise IT environment. You will design and document best‑practice data protection strategies for mission‑facing workloads using Commvault and develop hardened installation and configuration procedures aligned to Navy standards. You will provide engineering support to the operational network as needed and collaborate with engineers and solution owners to select and implement the best protection strategy per workload.

You Have:

• 8 + years of experience developing and administering enterprise backup platforms, including on Commvault, such as CommCell, Media Agents, deduplication, encryption, and air‑gap or immutability, and with tools such as Veeam or Backup Exec
• 5+ years of experience supporting Windows Server networks, including Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, VSS, and storage services, in production environments
• 2+ years of experience operating VMware vSphere such as ESXi, vCenter, VM backups or restore workflows, VM snapshots, CBT, and application‑consistent backups
• 2+ years of experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and operational tooling
• Experience in administration with Commvault or Rubrik at scale including multi-site, multi-tenant, diverse workloads
• Experience with documentation such as runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and operational metrics
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as routing, VLANs, and firewalls, and secure data flows for backup networks
• Secret clearance
• HS diploma or GED
• DoD 8570.11 IAT Level II certification such as CompTIA Security+ CE, CISSP, or SSCP

Nice If You Have:

• Experience with Site Recovery and DR runbooks
• Experience with Active Directory Recovery
• Experience with storage platforms, such as NetApp, Dell, EMC, or Pure, SAN/NAS, tape libraries, and key management
• Experience with cloud backup integrations, such as Azure or AWS, and object storage targets
• Experience working in cross‑functional and matrixed teams
• Possession of excellent collaboration and communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, or related field
• Microsoft Windows Server or Hybrid Administrator certifications
• Commvault certification
• VMware VCP‑DCV certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract‑specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,900.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
