Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Backup & Recovery Engineer based in Hartford, CT to manage enterprise backup architectures and cloud-based restore orchestration. You will design policies, run DR drills, and optimize tape, VTL, and disk backup strategies across on-prem and cloud environments.

The role requires hands-on AWS backup experience, scripting for automation, and familiarity with compliance and SLA reporting in a large enterprise setting. Relocation support may apply.

Role: Backup & Recovery Engineer (AWS / Cloud Exposure)

Location: Harford, CT

Core backup skills

• Enterprise backup tools: Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Rubrik/Cohesity
• Backup policy design: retention, RPO/RTO, full/incremental/differential schedules
• Restore testing, DR drills, and backup failure troubleshooting
• Tape/VTL and disk-based backup management

AWS / cloud exposure

• AWS Backup (centralized policies, vault lock, cross-region/cross-account copy)
• EBS snapshots, RDS automated backups, S3 versioning and lifecycle rules, Glacier archival
• IAM roles for backup access, KMS encryption, CloudWatch alarms for job monitoring
• Hybrid backup to cloud (Veeam/Commvault to S3, Storage Gateway)
• Exposure to Azure Backup or GCP equivalents (nice to have)

Supporting skills

• Scripting: PowerShell, Python, or Bash for backup automation
• ITSM: ServiceNow incident/change handling, SLA reporting
• Compliance: retention audits, ransomware-resilience (immutable backups)

Certifications (preferred)

• AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate
• Veeam VMCE or Commvault Certified Professional

Compensation
