Job summary

The State of California is seeking a Special Investigator to conduct background investigations for sworn and non-sworn personnel within the Department of Justice. You will determine qualifications and suitability through extensive reference interviews and record searches to verify information provided in the Personal History Statement (PHQ).

Duty includes reference to the Duty Statement and guidance on benefits available through CalHR and CalPERS.

Qualifications

• The candidate should consistently exercise a high degree of initiative, confidentiality, independence, and originality in performing a wide variety of duties.
• Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions; knowledge of correct spelling, grammatical usage, punctuation, and current office methods.

Responsibilities

• Perform background investigations for sworn and non-sworn personnel within the Department of Justice.
• Determine qualifications and suitability of applicants for employment as sworn peace officers and non-sworn staff.
• Conduct extensive reference interviews and record searches to verify information provided by the applicant in PHQ/PHS.
