Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is hiring a Cross-Connection Technician in the Water / Customer Care Division. This role performs backflow assembly and irrigation system installations, ensuring cross-connection control methods meet city and state codes.

Inspections and plan reviews of water distribution systems are conducted to prevent contamination. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, four years Journeyman Plumber experience, a Texas Driver's License, and license endorsements

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with specialized training in the trades area
• Four years Journeyman Plumber experience required to qualify as Master Plumber
• Valid Texas Driver's License
• Ability to obtain Texas Master Plumber license within one year
• WSPS endorsement required or ability to obtain
• Possession of or ability to obtain TCEQ licenses (including BPAT)
• Irrigation Inspectors License
• Possession of or ability to obtain TCEQ BPAT license

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring cross connection control activities
• Perform plan reviews and inspections of buildings in the water distribution system
• Inspect new and modified irrigation systems for compliance
• Provide technical support to Water Department supervisory staff
• Handle a high volume of plan reviews and inspections
• Review and assess water system, building, and plumbing plans
• Maintain inspection reports and related correspondence, enforce cross-connection rules

Pay Range: $26.57 - $33.21/hr.

A Cross Connection Technician job is available with The City of Fort Worth (Water / Customer Care Division / Cross-Connection Section). This position performs backflow assembly and irrigation system installations to ensure residential and commercial facilities have adequate and approved cross connection control methods in place. Conducts permit inspections and plan review of buildings and facilities water distribution systems to prevent contamination of the public potable water supply and private water distribution systems as required by city and state codes.

Minimum Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED certification, supplemented by specialized training in assigned trades area
• Four (4) years of Journeyman Plumber experience as required by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and the Plumbing License Law to qualify as a Master Plumber
• Valid Texas Driver's License
• Possession of or ability to obtain Texas State Master Plumber's License within one (1) year of employment
• TSBPE Water Supply Protection Specialist (WSPS) endorsement
• Possession of or ability to obtain Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
• Irrigation Inspectors License
• Possession of or ability to obtain TCEQ, Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) license

Preferred Qualifications

• Master Plumber License with a Water Safety Protection Specialist (W.S.P.S.) endorsement
• Possession of, or ability to obtain an Irrigation Inspector license from Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
• Possession of, or ability to obtain a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester license
• In-depth knowledge of the International Plumbing Code, Fort Worth Cross-Connection and Plumbing codes
• Verifiable Texas State Board of Plumbing and TCEQ licenses

The Cross-Connection Technician Job Responsibilities Include

• Assist in monitoring cross connection control activities
• Perform plan review and conduct inspections of new and existing building within the water distribution system to eliminate cross connections
• Conduct inspections of new and modified irrigation systems to comply with water conservation, irrigation, and cross connection requirements
• Provide technical support to assigned supervisory personnel with the Water Department
• Handle a high volume of plan review and inspections
• Process technical data including assessment of water system, building, utility and plumbing plans
• Enforce and explain cross connection control and irrigation ordinancesMaintain appropriate reports of inspections and other correspondence

Working Conditions and Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.

Medium Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects
