Job summary

Pirc-Tobin Construction, Inc. is seeking self-motivated individuals to join our Des Moines project crews as a Backfill Operator. Be part of a safety-oriented team that handles underground pipe installation, grading, and street reconstruction, with physical labor when not operating equipment.

Ideal candidates will have strong safety focus, be willing to learn, and embrace our core values of dependability, honesty, problem solving, care, and continuous growth. Drug tests are required prior to work.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1000 hours of safe and proficient operation of heavy equipment.
• Valid driver’s license - Class C minimum and clean driving record.
• Completion of company trainings such as OSHA 10, trench safety, first aid/CPR optional.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely and proficiently for underground pipe installation, grading, and street reconstruction.
• Train and perform main line pipe installs, removals, and related tasks as needed.
• Read blueprints, grade stakes, and utility locates with minimal supervision.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and maintenance; keep equipment clean.
• Work around live traffic and other crews in a safety-conscious manner.
• Adhere to the full-time schedule with potential overtime during construction season.

Job Summary:

Pirc-Tobin Construction is seeking individuals to join our project crews in the Des Moines, IA area as a Backfill Operator. This position is for an individual who is self-motivated, positive, and team and safety-oriented, who can operate heavy equipment for jobs such as (but not limited to) underground pipe installation, grading, and street reconstruction. When not operating equipment, individuals must be willing to perform physical labor wherever needed.

Applicant must pass a drug test prior to working.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates safe and proficient operation of heavy equipment associated with duties related, but not limited to, underground pipe installation, grading, and street reconstruction.
• Have the appropriate required training to perform jobs such as main line pipe installs, removals, fine grading, truck loading, and other associated tasks.
• Must understand how to maneuver around obstacles and buried utilities, without direct supervision from management.
• Read blueprints, grade stakes, and utility locates.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the equipment.
• Work safely around other equipment, crews, and live traffic.
• Work a full-time schedule with overtime during construction season as follows:

-- Seasonal work, March - December -- Monday - Friday, 7:00-5:30 with possible weekend work -- 40-55 hours/week, depending on weather--

Education, Experience & Training Requirements:

• 1000 hours minimum of safe and proficient operation of various heavy equipment
• Must hold a valid insurable driver's license - Class C minimum and a clear driving record
