Apple Inc. in San Diego is seeking a Backend Software Engineer for the Universal Media Engineering team. You will design and build services powering the Apple TV app and related media experiences, collaborating with cross-functional teams across Apple to deliver scalable, low-latency solutions.

You will work on data platforms, APIs, and server-side systems, applying best practices in CI/CD, cloud, and security while advancing privacy commitments that are core to Apple.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience building resilient, high-scale distributed microservices.
• Proficiency in Java or an OO language.
• Experience with NoSQL databases (Cassandra, DynamoDB), messaging systems (Kafka/RabbitMQ), Solr/Elasticsearch, Redis, SQL (PostgresSQL, MySQL), Spring Framework/Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Proficient in algorithms and data structures.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
• Ability to solve problems given incomplete or partial data and/or requirements.
• Driven to deliver high quality solutions consistently and quickly.
• Self driven, collaborative, communicative, and fun to work with.

The teams build and manage the Apple TV app as well as tvOS, which redefined and refined the way people watch movies, TV shows, sports, and so much more. The ASE Video group is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Universal Media Engineering team. The Universal Media Engineering team leads the data platform and related tools that power the Apple TV app.We are looking for enthusiastic, self-starting individuals who can bring new ideas and innovations to the platform and push the boundaries of scalability, latency and quality. Minimum Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience building resilient, high-scale, distributed microservices in production environments
• Proficiency in software programming with Java or some other object oriented programming language
• Familiarity with one or more of these technologies: NoSQL databases (Cassandra, DynamoDB), messaging systems (Kafka/RabbitMQ), Solr/Elasticsearch, Redis, SQL (PostgresSQL, MySQL), Spring Framework/Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes etc.
• Proficient in algorithms and data structures
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
• Ability to solve problems given incomplete or partial data and/or requirements.
• Driven to deliver high quality solutions consistently and quickly.
• Self driven, collaborative, communicative, and fun to work with.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in stream processing and data processing tools and best-practices
• Experience with CI/CD and Cloud Environments
• Exposure to Generative AI technologies, including AI APIs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, or workflow automation, through professional, academic, or personal projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE/EE or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $142,300 and $263,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
