Job summary

Takealot Group is seeking a Software Engineer (backend, preferably with search experience) to join our team. You will design, build, and maintain robust e-commerce backends, focusing on scalable systems and high-quality production code.

Responsibilities include architecture, API development, testing, and incident response. The role offers a fully remote setup with optional office visits, and opportunities to grow within a fast-growing, innovative company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5 to 10 years in a software development role
• Developing scalable backend systems
• Understanding of computer science fundamentals (OOP, data structures, algorithms)
• Producing robust, efficient production code
• Proficient in Python, Java, Golang, etc
• RESTful APIs and web services
• SQL database systems
• Linux environment

Responsibilities

• Design and build solutions to assist business users and improve customer experience
• Architect and design solutions with the team
• Develop code and improve non-functional areas
• Produce high-quality production code for complex systems
• Implement and improve testing practices
• Contribute to architecture discussions and align across the organisation
