Job summary

Covet Health is seeking a lead backend engineer to shape the server-side architecture, data models, and API strategy for healthcare solutions. You will work with the CTO and founders to build scalable APIs, serverless services, and robust data systems supporting providers, brokers, members, and employers.

You will contribute to performance tuning, database optimization, and security practices while collaborating with frontend/mobile teams to define clean API contracts and reliable cloud services.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of backend software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new skills/techniques.
• Experience building scalable backend services, microservices, and APIs (REST/GraphQL/gRPC).
• Strong understanding of SQL/NoSQL databases and caching (PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, ArangoDB).
• Knowledge of cloud architectures and tools (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP, Serverless).
• Experience with messaging systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• Security-focused development (OAuth2, JWT, encryption) for PHI/healthcare data.
• Experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and scalable codebases.

Responsibilities

• Define architectural direction and backend system design for Covet Health’s services.
• Collaborate with CTO and founders on APIs and internal infrastructure.
• Build robust APIs, serverless services, and backend integrations for web/mobile apps.
• Ensure high performance, reliability, and uptime of systems.
• Conduct code reviews and architectural discussions for continuous improvement.
• Prioritize HIPAA-conscious security and data protection.
