Job summary

Notion is seeking a Software Engineer on Collections Infra to scale the infrastructure behind Notion’s database block. You’ll work on backend architecture that supports databases, views, and AI-driven write volume, aiming for higher concurrency and reliability.

This role can be based in San Francisco or New York City, with in-person anchor days on most weeks, and you’ll collaborate closely with senior engineers and product teams to evolve Collections as a platform.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering fundamentals, with interest in performance, reliability, scalability.
• Curiosity about distributed systems, microservices, and data-layer trade-offs.
• Practical comfort with JavaScript or TypeScript, or the ability to ramp quickly in a codebase where those tools matter.
• Grit and truth-seeking in technical problem solving.
• A self-guided learning style: use docs, code, teammates, and AI to build context and progress.

Responsibilities

• Understand how Collections Infra supports Notion’s database block and ship improvements to performance or reliability.
• Use AI as an engineering collaborator to learn systems faster, explore debugging paths, generate tests, and summarize traces or logs.
• Contribute to making databases faster and more reliable at P95 scale with larger enterprise workspaces and higher concurrency.
• Raise the quality bar for Collections infrastructure through architecture, observability, documentation, or system boundaries.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and product teams to evolve Collections as a platform.
