Job summary

Speechmatics is seeking a hands-on backend engineer to own the technical engine of our website and self-serve portal. You will ship production-grade code, deploy and maintain infrastructure, and push data-driven improvements across the customer journey.

You’ll work with JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, and AI-first workflows, collaborating with product, design, and data teams. We support a hybrid model with regular office days.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript for website backend development with a track record of shipping and maintaining production code.
• Hands-on Python experience for data queries.
• Demonstrable experience with LLM and AI-first development workflows.
• Experience in a product-led growth or self-serve SaaS environment, understanding conversion funnels.

Responsibilities

• Own the backend development and ongoing health of the Speechmatics website and self-serve portal.
• Build and maintain new components from scratch, turning design specs into production-ready code.
• Manage deployments and backend infrastructure to keep the live site fast and reliable.
• Implement UI changes end-to-end, bridging design and live updates.
• Write Python queries to surface insights across the self-serve portal.
• Identify opportunities to improve conversion across the self-serve funnel.
• Collaborate with product, design, and data teams in cross-functional settings.
• Drive ongoing site performance and reliability improvements.
