Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Backend Data Engineer to support a federal program focused on enterprise data modernization and reporting. This onsite role is in Norfolk, VA, and involves building scalable data pipelines and preparing data for analytics.

You will integrate legacy systems, collaborate with analytics teams, and help enable data-informed decisions across government operations with Power BI and other enterprise reporting tools.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years hands-on data engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF) and SQL.
• Experience integrating legacy systems and ETL workflows.
• Active Secret Clearance and Security+ (IAT Level II) required.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Connect and ingest data from legacy systems, SQL databases, and disparate data sources.
• Perform data transformation, cleansing, staging, aggregation, and repository management.
• Optimize backend data architecture to support Power BI and other enterprise reporting platforms.
• Collaborate with reporting and analytics teams to ensure reliable and accurate data delivery.

This position is on-site in Norfolk, VA. The Backend Data Engineer will design and build scalable data pipelines, integrate legacy systems, and prepare enterprise data for reporting and analytics. • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF)

Required Qualifications for the Backend Data Engineer include:

• 3-4 years of hands-on Data Engineering experience
• Strong experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF), SQL, and enterprise data pipeline development
• Experience integrating legacy systems, performing ETL processes, and managing data repositories
• Experience with Azure cloud environments and enterprise data transformation methodologies
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Active Secret Clearance required
• Security+ Certification (IAT Level II) required

Compensation for the Backend Data Engineer includes:

Salary Range: ~$100,000 annually depending on experience
