Job summary

The Out Camping Food Specialist at American Youth Foundation oversees day-to-day food supplies and meal planning for multi-day backcountry trips at Merrowvista – Center Tuftonboro, NH. The role works onsite with the OCE Specialist and Logistics Coordinator to manage inventory, plan menus, and assist with pack-out and camp programming.

Housing and all meals are provided; this seasonal position requires flexibility, strong food safety focus, and the ability to live among campers during sessions,

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 with experience in outdoor adventure education or wilderness trip leading.
• Menu planning, backcountry cooking, and food packaging skills.
• Commitment to AYF mission and values with integrity and accountability.
• Ability to interact respectfully with diverse groups and foster a positive camp community.
• Willingness to participate in all camp activities, including training and evenings.

Responsibilities

• Maintain organized, safe food storage and packing areas.
• Plan menus, manage food inventory, and place weekly orders.
• Ensure dietary needs are accommodated and food safety is prioritized.
• Lead pack-out with camper groups and supervise food preparation on trips.
• Assist with gear resupply, emergency driving, and all-camp food program tasks.
• Participate in camp programming and staff meetings as required.
