Basic Information

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety and security of youth, assist in execution of treatment and service goals, and court orders.
  • Supervise, assist, and monitor daily activities of youth (school, recreation, meals, personal hygiene, sleep, work projects, and suicide watch).
  • Document behavior, incidents, rule infractions, and other occurrences in narrative or report form.
  • Execute individual components of treatment and service plans; review and execute court orders.
  • Travel to youth residences, conduct room checks, monitor visits, and perform related duties.
  • Provide written and oral input regarding youth progress, behavior, and rule infractions; counsel youth on individual and group basis.
  • Assist youth in developing and stabilizing personal and social adjustment skills such as anger control, peer and family interaction, personal hygiene, grooming, and discipline.
  • Perform body searches, hand‑out medication, and mediate disagreements between youth.
  • Work schedule assignments, including mandatory overtime, to meet court obligations.
  • Meet with community resources to identify and implement youth programs and projects.
  • Serve on teams, committees, and cross‑train for other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Operate motor vehicle safely, including court vans.
  • Supervise, motivate, and discipline youth with behavioral problems.
  • Remain calm and in control in emergencies or stressful situations.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing; prepare clear, complete reports.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Restrain youth in physical confrontation if necessary.
  • Work positively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; maintain effective relationships.
  • Install and detach surveillance equipment using small hand tools.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of work experience.
Special Requirements
  • Minimum age 25 years.
  • Valid driver’s license and state‑mandated auto liability insurance; reliable vehicle.
  • Pass physical exam/physical abilities performance test.
  • Background screening required, including checks for education verification, child abuse/neglect clearances, drug screening, and physical assessment.
Schedule and Working Conditions

Work is shift‑based, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Employees may be reassigned to different shifts, days, facilities, departments, or jobs. Shift work, overtime, and changing schedules are essential functions.
