Medical Assistant I works under the Clinic Manager to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care during clinic hours. The Medical Assistant I works as part of a health care team including physicians, NP/PA’s, patient services representatives, medical records, health educators and social workers to provide comprehensive care in a non-judgmental manner. Unicare Community Health Center is a federally qualified health center providing comprehensive patient-centered primary care services including medical, dental, substance abuse treatment, mental health and outreach services to low income, multiethnic, uninsured and underinsured populations. This job requires access to confidential and sensitive information, requiring ongoing discretion and secure information management.

Assist with intake, financial screening, and set-up for patient visits. Completes fee ticket, collects payment and insurance information. Utilize eCW system to schedule and review appointments for need and accuracy. Interprets for the provider and staff as needed. Performs clinic front desk duties, including but not limited to, answering incoming telephone calls, obtaining and/or verifying patient information, patient check in/out, coordinate and facilitate accurate patient appointments.
Assist with the training of medical and lab assistants, and volunteer staff on health education, and laboratory. Assist in providing on-going supervision to same staff. Assist as needed including medication refill requests, specialty and procedure referrals, pre and post clinic chart review. Review charts, lab test results, and encounter forms for completeness and to assess follow-up as needed. Work with Manager to oversee dispensary logs and storage to maintain quality assurance. Coordinate the inventory, ordering and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies. Provide sick/vacation leave backup for other medical assistants. Assists with daily and monthly quality assurance reviews including emergency kit check off. Record and maintain the refrigerator and freezer temperature logs. Order VFC vaccines. Ensures accurate and detailed documentation as per the provider(s) instruction. Accurately and thoroughly document clinical visits and procedures and treatments performed by the provider, including but not limited to: patient clinical history and physical exam. Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits. Provider-dictated diagnoses, and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up. Assist Provider in navigating the electronic health record (EHR). Locates information for review (encounters, test results, outside records, etc.) Champions quality initiatives and implements key components into documentation. Troubleshooting basic IT needs (i.e. printer setup, etc.) Notifies provider of any pending items/ system alerts. Actively participates in huddles with care team. Understands clinical scribe scope of practice and maintains awareness of any changes. Attends training on diverse subjects as needed to enhance or maintain performance. Performs other duties as requested.
You will need to travel to other clinic locations as needed for cross coverage support.
