Job summary

Pediatric Associates seeks an Outstanding Medical Assistant / Lab FLOAT with a passion for pediatric care to support clinical and administrative tasks across multiple offices. The role includes lab testing, phlebotomy, patient intake, and assisting clinicians under supervision.

New hire training (approximately 90 days) and a schedule of Monday–Friday 10:00 am–7:00 pm, with every other Saturday 8:00 am–12:00 pm, plus a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • MA Diploma / Certification or 3 years MA experience.
  • Active BLS certification required.
  • Active and valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory testing procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology and Spirometry.
  • Reports laboratory results to a healthcare clinician and alerts abnormal values.
  • Performs phlebotomy including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks.
  • Prepares specimens for reference lab send-outs and documents results.
  • Performs daily/weekly/monthly quality control and instrument maintenance.
  • Take patient vitals (height, weight, temperature, BP, pulse, respiration) and notify clinician of abnormalities.
  • Interview patients, document history, and update medical records.
  • Obtain medical records and records for clinician review and follow-up.
  • Prepare patient for exam and document clinician orders.
  • Assist with age-appropriate screenings and vaccines under supervision.
  • Perform vaccine and medication reconciliation and provide vaccine information statements.
  • Carry out injections and post-observation monitoring.
  • Handle patient follow-up, calls, prescriptions, referrals, and forms.
  • Able to travel, float, and adapt to flexible locations.

SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday 10:00 am -7:00 pm

Every other Sat 8:00 am -12:00 pm

*Bilingual Spanish Required*

New Hire Training (approximately first 90 days), the schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm

Float Locations: Doral, Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Miami Lakes East and Midtown

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Floater will perform quality team-based patient care under the direct supervision of a clinician for both clinical and administrative functions to promote health and wellness in a safe and friendly environment. Supports clinician and care management teams in assessing, maintaining chronic disease management, examining, and treating the pediatric patient population. The Laboratory Medical Assistant Floater is responsible for performing all laboratory testing procedures and phlebotomy, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks. This floating employee will be working in various offices to support in either the MA role or a dedicated Lab station.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list may not include all the duties that may be assigned.

  1. Performs laboratory testing procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology and Spirometry.
  2. Reports laboratory results to a healthcare clinician. Alerts the healthcare clinician of any critical or out-of-range values and documents critical reports.
  3. Performs phlebotomy, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks.
  4. Prepares specimens for reference lab send-outs, including labeling, resulting, and billing information.
  5. Performs and documents daily/weekly/monthly quality control, including instrument maintenance.
  6. Perform and document the patient’s intake vitals, including, but are limited to, height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate; repeat and notify the clinician of any abnormal findings.
  7. Interview the patient based on age appropriateness and/or specialty needs with accurate documentation and update medical records to include chief complaint, current medications with drug name, dosing, route, medication and food allergies with reaction and severity, vaccine, medical, surgical, family, social histories, any barriers to care and home status.
  8. Obtain necessary medical records, consultation notes, hospital inpatient and/or ED discharge records, diagnostic and laboratory results for clinician review, and treatment follow-up as needed.
  9. Prepares the patient for clinician examination, ensuring clinician orders are performed and accurately documented.
  10. Performs with clinician supervision and assists clinicians in necessary age-appropriate vision, hearing screenings, electrocardiograms with repeat as needed, suture removal, ear lavages, urine catheterization, ear-piercing, wound care, specialty procedures, and emergency response with proper clinician supervision.
  11. Perform and document vaccine and medication reconciliation with patient and state registry; provide written vaccine information statements and education of patients/parents prior to vaccine and medication administration.
  12. Perform proper patient identifiers, buddy process validation as per policies, and perform proper vaccine and medication administration to include intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections with post-observation.
  13. Completes patient follow-up and tasks assigned to meet patient needs, including, but not limited to answering phones, handling correspondence, prescription refill requests, providing the clinician with necessary information as needed, obtaining medication preauthorization, assisting with patient referrals, patient form completion to include DME, therapy, school clearance, sports and medication forms, arrange home, hospital care, procedures and follow-up appointments, etc.
  14. Able to travel, float, and adapt to a flexible location schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting required.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

  • MA Diploma / Certification required OR a minimum of 3 years MA experience will commensurate Diploma / Certification requirements.
  • Active BLS certification required.
  • Active & valid driver's license required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control requirements
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Knowledge of universal precaution procedures in medical safety practices
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
