Job summary

Ampcus Inc. is seeking a seasoned Back-End Developer specializing in Data Engineering to join our team. You will build and maintain data pipelines using Java, Scala, Spark, and AWS services, with a focus on reliability and scalability.

The role requires strong expertise in event-based architectures, AWS Glue, S3, Lambda, and Step Functions, and a commitment to data quality and governance. Hybrid work arrangement across Wilmington, DE and other listed sites is supported.

Qualifications

• Strong backend and data engineering fundamentals with Java/Scala/Spark.
• Hands-on AWS services experience and event-driven architectures.
• Ability to design robust data pipelines and data quality checks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain data pipelines using Java/Scala/Spark on AWS.
• Implement event-based triggers via EventBridge and S3 notifications.
• Design and orchestrate workflows with Step Functions and Glue.
• Ensure data quality, schema drift handling, and backfill when needed.

Job Title: Back-End Developer - Data Engineering

Location(s): Wilmington, DE, McLean, VA, Richmond, VA or NYC hybrid

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Back-End Developer specializing in Data Engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java, Scala, and Spark, and be adept at building and maintaining robust data pipelines using AWS services.

Key Responsibilities:

• AWS Pipeline Experience - Hands-on with S3, Glue, Step Functions, and Lambda across multi-stage data pipelines.
• Event-Based Architecture - Understand EventBridge rules and S3 event notifications. Know how to handle reruns from event-based triggers.
• Step Functions - Understand state machine scheduling and downstream job synchronization.
• Glue and Scaling - Comfortable with Glue job configuration and scaling. Self-researched Glue 4.0 Iceberg limitations when encountered.
• Data Quality - Built a validation component for data security; understands schema drift and backfill handling.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have a strong understanding of back-end development and data engineering principles, with proven experience in Java, Scala, and Spark. Experience with AWS services and a strong grasp of event-based architecture is essential.
