Job summary

JBS USA is seeking a maintenance technician to oversee ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, and related equipment at our Texas plant. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and coordinate shutdowns to minimize production impact.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with 2+ years in Maintenance, Maintenance Supervision, or Process/Project Management.
  • Hazardous Materials handling and SCBA certification is required.
  • Two years in refrigeration or boiler room preferred.
  • Operator 1/Operator 2 qualifications preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance and electrical functions.
  • Able to learn and follow directions from management and team leaders.
  • Able to follow and implement safety rules.
  • Proficient reading and writing of English.
  • Proficient with time prioritization and planning.
  • Able to use a computer for engine room functions and email.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good planning and priority setting skills.
  • Safety minded.
  • May be required to work long hours and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a log book of all breakdowns and corrective actions taken.
  • Maintain and complete work orders and preventive maintenance paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Schedule shutdowns of equipment and machinery for repairs and maintenance without disrupting production.
  • Maintain, repair, rebuild, and adjust ammonia refrigeration and associated equipment by analyzing, calibrating, replacing, or rebuilding all equipment within established guidelines.
  • Safely isolate and pump down any section of all systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on ammonia compressors, air compressors, boilers, evaporator units, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Utilize time effectively to minimize equipment downtime and repairs.
  • Follow safety-minded lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures for all equipment being worked on.
  • Work as a team player and seek guidance or help when needed.
  • Be on call when required and able to work independently when the situation calls for it.
  • Receive and follow training on LOTO, fall protection, confined space, hot work, and any other training deemed necessary to perform the job safely and effectively.
  • Order materials and parts as needed for stock or repairs.
  • Maintain all engine rooms, compressor rooms, and roof areas in a high state of cleanliness.
  • Work with outside vendors and technicians professionally.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with mechanical troubleshooting and repairs as directed by leadership.
  • Follow and implement OSHA 1910.119 PSM Standard/PSM-RMP program.
  • Report directly to the B&R Maintenance Manager.

Scope of Position

This position is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the ammonia refrigeration system, boiler, and compressed air maintenance tasks as needed. It performs preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on all equipment.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle items, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Work in a plant environment with wet or humid conditions, extreme cold, and near moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level is usually moderate but can be loud in production areas.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
