The Azure Cloud Engineer will support the Virginia Office of Data Governance and Analytics (ODGA) in implementing secure, scalable, and efficient cloud solutions.
This role involves designing and deploying Azure-based applications, managing access controls, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support data governance, sharing, and analytics initiatives across the Commonwealth.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with data and development teams to identify and implement optimal Azure cloud solutions.
- Develop documentation, strategies, flowcharts, and diagrams to demonstrate technical solutions.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to ODGA team members to build cloud competencies.
- Design, build, and deploy Azure cloud applications for large-scale data processing and analytics.
- Ensure application performance, uptime, and scalability while maintaining high code quality.
- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle including planning, development, testing, and QA.
- Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) for ODGA’s Azure environment to ensure secure data access.
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate vendor solutions.
- Work closely with business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject-matter experts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong understanding of cloud networking architectures including virtual networks, VPNs, subnets, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Experience with Azure services including:
- Synapse Analytics and ETL engines
- Azure SQL Databases and Storage Accounts
- Power BI
- Azure DevOps and data pipelines
- Solid debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with private networking configurations, DNS, and firewall rules.
- Familiarity with containerization and monitoring tools.
- Exposure to Agile methodologies and ceremonies.
Certifications
- Azure certifications preferred.
