Job description

The Azure Cloud Engineer will support the Virginia Office of Data Governance and Analytics (ODGA) in implementing secure, scalable, and efficient cloud solutions.

This role involves designing and deploying Azure-based applications, managing access controls, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support data governance, sharing, and analytics initiatives across the Commonwealth.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data and development teams to identify and implement optimal Azure cloud solutions.
• Develop documentation, strategies, flowcharts, and diagrams to demonstrate technical solutions.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to ODGA team members to build cloud competencies.
• Design, build, and deploy Azure cloud applications for large-scale data processing and analytics.
• Ensure application performance, uptime, and scalability while maintaining high code quality.
• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle including planning, development, testing, and QA.
• Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) for ODGA’s Azure environment to ensure secure data access.
• Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate vendor solutions.
• Work closely with business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject-matter experts.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong understanding of cloud networking architectures including virtual networks, VPNs, subnets, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Experience with Azure services including:
• Synapse Analytics and ETL engines
• Azure SQL Databases and Storage Accounts
• Power BI
• Azure DevOps and data pipelines
• Solid debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with private networking configurations, DNS, and firewall rules.
• Familiarity with containerization and monitoring tools.
• Exposure to Agile methodologies and ceremonies.

Certifications

• Azure certifications preferred.
