A day in the life

You will split your time between technical leadership and people development. On any given day, you might review a system design for a new scaling mechanism, meet with a principal engineer to align on architecture direction, conduct a 1:1 with a direct report on career growth, and join an operational review to assess service health. Your stakeholders include senior AWS executives, partner service teams, and customers ranging from startups to the largest enterprises in the world.

The ELB Data Plane team builds and operates the software that processes every byte of customer traffic flowing through Elastic Load Balancing. We are a group of builders who care deeply about performance, reliability, and customer trust. We operate with high ownership, move fast on what matters, and support each other in delivering results at scale.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 5+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
