Job summary

SAIC at Scott AFB, Illinois, seeks an AWS GovCloud Engineer to support the USTRANSCOM IT Services MITS effort and modernize the command's infrastructure and applications.

Responsibilities include designing secure, scalable cloud solutions with ECS Fargate, EKS, ECR; migrating web platforms; automating with Terraform and GitLab CI/CD; and ensuring high availability while complying with DoD standards.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance at IAT Level II.
  • AWS GovCloud and container services experience.
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to design and present technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement AWS GovCloud solutions with ECS Fargate, EKS, and ECR; apply zero‑downtime deployment patterns.
  • Plan, design, and manage migrations/re‑platforming of complex web infrastructure.
  • Automate via IaC & CI/CD: maintain Terraform modules and GitLab pipelines.
  • Operate for availability: design and maintain highly available cluster configurations; monitor and tune performance.
  • Governance & documentation: produce designs, runbooks, and change management artifacts.

Description

SAIC is seeking an AWS GovCloud Engineer to support an IT Service Management effort for USTRANSCOM located at Scott Air Force Base (AFB) in Illinois. The USTC Managed Information Technology Services (MITS) contract is intended to provide strategic, technical, and program management guidance and support services to facilitate the operations and modernization of the combatant command’s infrastructure, systems, and applications. This support will be provided to the USTC Command, Control, Communications & Cyber Systems Directorate (TCJ6). The successful candidate initiates, supervises, and/or develops requirements from a project’s inception to conclusion for complex to extremely complex programs; Provides strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff; Provides detailed analysis, evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and/or maintenance efforts for client‑specific or mission critical challenges/issues; Consults with client to define needs or problems, supervises studies and leads surveys to collect and analyze data to provide advice and recommend solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Architect & Implement AWS GovCloud solutions emphasizing security, scalability, resiliency; core services include ECS Fargate, EKS, ECR; apply blue/green and other zero‑downtime deployment patterns.
  • Plan, design, and manage migrations/re‑platforming of complex web infrastructure; lead refactoring and modernization targeting ECS Fargate with robust testing.
  • Automate via IaC & CI/CD: maintain and evolve Terraform modules and GitLab pipelines for consistent, audited deployments.
  • Operate for availability: design and maintain highly available ECS Fargate cluster configurations; monitor, troubleshoot, and tune performance.
  • Linux operations: perform RHEL 8/9 command‑line administration and production support.
  • Governance & documentation: produce technical designs, runbooks, and configuration/change management artifacts aligned to DoD and program standards.
  • CMS administration (Strapi): handle admin functions (permissions, configurations, patches/upgrades, backups) for a mission website—limited portion of time.
  • Cross‑functional leadership: collaborate with SAIC Cloud/DevOps engineers and the Software Testing Team; provide strategic guidance and customer‑facing recommendations.
Qualifications
  • BS/BA and 10+ years of experience in cloud/DevOps/infrastructure engineering.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance; IAT Level II (e.g., Security+, CySA+, SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, CND) per DoD 8570.
  • AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional or DevOps Engineer – Professional).
  • Deep experience with AWS GovCloud, ECS/EKS/ECR, Terraform, GitLab, and RHEL 8/9.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and operate scalable, secure web infrastructure, and strong technical documentation skills.
  • Experience delivering configuration & change management directly with/for government customers.
  • Proficiency administering Strapi (permissions, configuration, patching/upgrades, backups) in cloud environments.
  • In-depth understanding of Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS), Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), and Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR).

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
