Job summary

Vanguard is seeking an experienced Application Engineer III to join a growing engineering team building cloud-native solutions using AWS and microservices. You will design, develop, test, and maintain scalable applications, APIs, and backend services while collaborating with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.

The role emphasizes strong Java/Spring Boot development, experience with modern frontend frameworks, RESTful APIs, and CI/CD practices to ensure high-quality software delivery.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of related work experience with at least one year of development experience.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Experience building and supporting full-stack applications in enterprise environments.
• Strong hands-on development with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with modern frontend technologies like Angular or React.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and system integrations.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud technologies.
• Experience with source control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and implement scalable applications and services.
• Build and support cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS and microservices architectures.
• Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and backend services, with frontend work as needed.
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, testing, and architecture decisions.
• Implement automated testing and CI/CD practices to improve quality and delivery speed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and production issues.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, architects, and stakeholders to deliver solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and system reliability.
• Mentor less experienced engineers when appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with technology, security, risk, and operational standards.
