Cherokee Federal is seeking an AWS Engineer to design, deploy, and support secure, scalable AWS cloud solutions for a federal client. This role emphasizes infrastructure, IaC, CI/CD, cloud security, and DevOps in a regulated environment.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of AWS experience and possess strong cloud engineering skills with federal or public sector exposure. Salesforce/MuleSoft experience is a bonus and U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications

5+ years of AWS experience in design, deployment, and support of cloud infrastructure.
Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS infrastructure for federal or public sector clients.
Hands-on with core AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, ECS/EKS).
Experience with infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK).
Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation.
Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and IAM in a regulated environment.
Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting on AWS.
Experience with FedRAMP, ATO, or NIST 800-53 preferred.
AWS certification (Solutions Architect, SysOps, DevOps) preferred.
Salesforce/Mulesoft experience a bonus.
Strong written and verbal communication; able to brief senior stakeholders.
Ability to obtain government-required background investigation or security clearance.
U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable AWS infrastructure for government missions.
Collaborate with government leads to define requirements and release timing.
Architect and implement AWS solutions using EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, ECS/EKS, API Gateway.
Build and manage IaC with CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK.
Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate builds and deployments.
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for visibility and health.
Ensure security, governance, and compliance (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53).
Configure networking, security groups, encryption, and IAM controls.
Support integrations between AWS systems and external platforms.
Troubleshoot issues; document root causes and remediation.
Present briefs to government managers; produce executive-level summaries.

Salesforce experience, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Public Sector Solutions, or MuleSoft, is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

Estimated Starting Salary Range for AWS Engineer: $100,000-140,000

Pay commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities Include

Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS in support of government mission requirements.
Work with government leads and Product Owners to understand technical requirements, clarify scope, and confirm release timing for new infrastructure and enhancement requests.
Architect and implement AWS solutions using services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, ECS/EKS, and API Gateway.
Build and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK to ensure repeatable, auditable, and version-controlled deployments.
Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines (e.g., AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitLab CI) to automate build, test, and deployment workflows.
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and related tooling to ensure system health, performance, and operational visibility.
Ensure cloud infrastructure is secure, scalable, and maintainable, and aligned with government governance, auditability, security, and compliance expectations (e.g., FedRAMP, agency ATO requirements, NIST 800-53).
Configure and manage networking, security groups, encryption, and identity/access controls in accordance with federal security standards.
Support integrations between AWS-hosted systems and external platforms (e.g., APIs, middleware, third-party SaaS), confirming data integrity across systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, performance, and deployment issues; document root cause and remediation.
Present formal and informal oral and written briefings to government managers; produce executive-ready technical summaries and decision support materials.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities Requested

Bachelor's degree with preferred study in Computer Science, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, or Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of experience. Seven (7) years of work experience in related field may be substituted for education.
Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS cloud infrastructure in support of federal or public sector clients.
