AVS Bio is seeking a Facilities Manager to oversee all maintenance department operations at our Voluntown, CT sites. You will manage projects, supervise the maintenance crew, coordinate with production management, and ensure biosecurity and regulatory compliance across plant structures and utility systems.

The role requires strong leadership, hands-on maintenance skills, and experience in engineering or construction trades.

Qualifications

  • Five years related experience, preferably in engineering or construction trades.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline preferred; GED/HS diploma accepted with experience.

  • Prepare recycling plans and coordinate with farm/production management.
  • Oversee recycling, construction, and repair projects; act as Project Manager.
  • Direct day-to-day maintenance operations and supervise staff workload.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, electrical, water/sewage, etc.).

**AVS Bio Facilities Manager** **Title:** Facilities Manager **Location:** Voluntown, CT **Industry:** Poultry, Agriculture, Pharmaceutical **Salary:** $80K **Job Type:** Direct Hire **Overview** Manage all maintenance department operations, including construction and repair projects, to ensure efficient quality operation of the production and SPF chick farms. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** * Prepare recycling plans, staff activities, and projects in coordination with farm and production management. Keep accurate and timely records on recycling projects. Prepare informal reports for management review and approval as assigned.* Oversee recycles, construction, and repair projects. Act as Project Manager.* Plan, direct, and supervise the day-to-day operations and activities of maintenance and crew department. Assess appropriate workload and provide suggestions for improvement. Provide guidance on coordination of maintenance department workload and disbursement of work assignments.* Monitor and ensure regulatory compliance appropriate to areas such as plant structures and related OSHA, mechanical, electrical, water and sewage operations.* Coordinate purchasing and contractor services for maintenance operations with the Production Manager. Ensure contractors adhere to biosecurity, quality assurance, and EHS guidelines* Represent the company at town meetings in support of projects and/or facilities related items.* Respond to alarm calls and emergencies as needed. Ensure continuous operation of critical systems.* Manage activities of assigned group(s) to ensure effective performance of function.* Interview and select qualified exempt- and non-exempt level departmental personnel. Recommend, review and approve personnel actions, including hiring, promotions and raises. Partner with Human Resources in the handling of disciplinary issues. Prepare and/or approve appropriate personnel action paperwork.* Identify training and development needs of direct reports. Develop and oversee the implementation of departmental training programs, including orientation; monitor training programs to ensure ongoing effectiveness.* Monitor performance of direct reports. Provide regular coaching and counseling. Prepare and deliver salary and performance reviews; review and approve performance and salary appraisals initiated by direct reports* Authorize overtime as needed. Review and approve time cards. Review and approve vacation/time off requests and coordinate vacation/time off schedules.* Assist in the development of short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, and staffing requirements. Assist in the development of a departmental plan for backup and succession of supervisory staff and key technical personnel.* Assist in the development and recommendation of departmental budget including capital improvements. Authorize expenditures in accordance with budget. Approve budget and expenses of subordinates.* Ensure optimum performance of group function. Determine and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices. Improve current procedures and equipment to reduce downtime.* Develop and maintain departmental systems and SOPs. Assist in the development and communication of departmental policies and procedures. Bachelor s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Engineering or related discipline preferred.* ***Experience:***Five years related experience, preferably in engineering or construction trades.* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.* ***Certification/Licensure:*** Valid driver's license* ***Other:*** Supervisory and task coordination skills; basic maintenance skills required; poultry knowledge preferred.**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*** While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about inside and outside, often on uneven surfaces. Regularly provides information to and receives information from/through various technologies, media, sources and contacts. Must be able to accurately exchange information in these situations. Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.* The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.**WORK ENVIRONMENT:*** While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
