Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) invites candidates for the newly created role of Associate Vice President for Research Computing and Data (AVP RCD). CMU commits to investing in research computing resources and forming the Office of Research Computing and Data to lead this initiative.

The AVP RCD will define a university-wide vision for leadership-class computing, expand scalable service models, and oversee data governance, security, and collaboration across CMU’s colleges and partners.

Qualifications

• This leadership role requires proven management and strategic leadership skills with strong communication to coordinate across CMU’s colleges and programs.
• Experience guiding large, cross-functional initiatives and building sustainable partnerships across organizational boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute a university-wide vision for leadership-class research computing and data that aligns with CMU’s mission and strategic goals.
• Expand scalable models for service delivery, funding, and resourcing.
• Oversee security, reliability, and scalability of research computing infrastructure to meet current and future needs.
• Lead the design, build-out, and maturation of controlled research data and computing environments across cloud and on-premises platforms.
