Position Summary

The Executive Property and Casualty Underwriter is responsible for driving profitable growth through effective risk management and underwriting strategies, leading the development of innovative property and casualty products. The role contributes to practice objectives, business targets, identifies opportunities in targeted markets and establishes consistent underwriting best practices. They build strong stakeholder relationships, implement cutting‑edge technologies for efficiency, manage budgets and ensure compliance with underwriting standards and guidelines.

Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver profitable growth through effective risk selection, premiums, coverage and drive remediation strategies or corrections within the scope of their own underwriting authority.
  • Partner with senior management to set clear objectives and strategies, manage the annual budget process and assist in strategic matters relevant to the overall direction of the portfolio.
  • Lead the development of new property and casualty products tailored to evolving customer needs, leveraging market insights and technological advancements for a competitive edge.
  • Establish strong relationships with brokers, clients and other stakeholders with a principal focus on growing the P&L within assigned authority.
  • Develop insured‑specific risk transfer programs, gather pertinent underwriting information, conduct due diligence for risk selection, and prepare and analyze pricing models.
  • Identify prospective accounts in targeted markets, create opportunities, coordinate RFPs, and follow through to a successful agreement.
  • Recognize and create cross‑sell opportunities for products, work to understand options that best meet insured needs, and negotiate terms and conditions with the agent or broker.
  • Establish consistent underwriting best practices in accordance with underwriting guidelines to ensure rating, pricing, profitability and structuring adequacy.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure underwriting processes and guidelines are within company standards and comply with risk, compliance and audit requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation to streamline underwriting processes, deliver efficiency and stay on top of industry advancements.
  • Train and develop less experienced staff on underwriting approaches, compliance, policy documentation and administration, and other best practices.
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Risk Management, Actuarial, or Business Administration.
  • 12+ years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting with a Bachelor’s degree, or 8+ years with a Master’s degree.
Licenses & Certifications
  • State P&C and/or surplus line license required.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU) a plus.

Compensation

Target salary range: $168,000.00 – $210,000.00 annually. The wage range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
