Job description

The AVL Technician supports Worship Center's mission by ensuring audio, video, and lighting systems are prepared, maintained, and operating reliably for services, ministries, and events. With an emphasis on audio and a working knowledge of all AVL disciplines, this role provides hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, documentation, and equipment maintenance. This position balances independent initiative with team collaboration, helping create consistent production environments and equipping ministry staff and volunteers for success. The AVL Technician reports to the Technical Director.

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt 40-hour-per-week position. The schedule includes regular evening and weekend hours to support services, ministries, and events, along with designated office hours during the week. Flexibility is required as schedules and ministry needs change.

Experience and Abilities
  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience: Foundational knowledge of live production, with an emphasis on audio. Familiarity with audio signal flow, equipment setup, and basic troubleshooting. Experience operating audio, video, or lighting equipment through school, church, volunteer, or professional environments is preferred. Willingness to develop proficiency across all areas of AVL production.
  3. License/Certification: Valid PA Driver’s License.
  4. Specific Abilities: Strong technical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Organized, dependable, and able to independently complete assigned tasks and follow established procedures. Eager to learn, receptive to constructive feedback, and able to collaborate effectively with staff and volunteers. Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50 lbs. and work at heights using appropriate equipment and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent technical support for assigned ministries and events, collaborating with ministry leaders and AVL staff to ensure production needs are effectively prepared and executed.
  • Prepare, set up, operate, and tear down AVL equipment for services, ministries, and events, with an emphasis on audio production. Ensure equipment is tested and production spaces are reset and ready for their next use.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and functional AVL production spaces, equipment, and storage areas. Maintain equipment inventories, labeling, cable organization, and technical documentation in accordance with established department standards.
  • Troubleshoot assigned AVL issues, performing routine diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and basic equipment repairs. Collaborate with other AVL staff when specialized assistance is needed, documenting findings and following through on assigned issues.
  • Support volunteers with operation and basic technical guidance during assigned services and events.
  • Provide additional support for weekend services and special events as assigned, including filling production roles when needed. Support AVL volunteers with operation and basic technical guidance during assigned services and events.
  • Assist with all stage changes or other "all hands on deck" projects, events, or other production duties ministry-wide as the Technical Director assigns.
  • Other duties as assigned.
