The Position

The Avionics Technician I performs entry-to-mid-level maintenance, modifications, and system integrations on advanced military aircraft platforms. Working closely with senior technicians and shop leads, this position is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and repairing critical electronic systems—including communication, navigation, flight control, and electronic warfare configurations. This role ensures all operations adhere strictly to naval aviation quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and maintain key avionics infrastructure, including communication, navigation, flight control, radar, and electronic warfare systems.

  • Conduct precise wiring operations, including wire/cable routing, clamping, hardware build-ups, connector terminations, and custom harness build-ups following strict technical data.

  • Isolate malfunctions and execute component-level or system-level replacements as required.

  • Document all maintenance actions precisely in accordance with federal, company, and military aviation regulations.

  • Adhere to the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) directives (COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790) as well as local SOPs and government flight regulations.

  • Participate in tool control programs, executing mandated toolbox inventories at the start and conclusion of each work shift to mitigate Foreign Object Damage (FOD) risks.

  • Maintain calibrated test equipment and specialty diagnostic fixtures in accordance with established quality policies.

  • Work alongside engineers and cross-functional maintenance teams to resolve complex avionics discrepancies, document technical non-conformance, and submit redline install corrections.

  • Support aircraft inspections and formal acceptance procedures during modification delivery cycles.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of aviation avionics maintenance experience, preferably within a military or government aviation maintenance environment.

  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and accurately execute directions from technical manuals, wiring schematics, and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).

  • Practical familiarity with aircraft wiring standards, including MIL-SPEC connectors and specialized harnesses.

  • Proficiency utilizing multi-meters, ammeters, signal generators, and specialized avionics testing instruments.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance to access the airfield and military installation.

Preferred Certifications

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license or equivalent military aviation MOS certification.
