Job summary

West Star Aviation is seeking an Avionics Maintenance Technician for a weekend shift in Chattanooga, TN. The role involves troubleshooting and repairing avionics to the component level on Navs, Coms, Pulse, Radar, Audio and Autopilot systems, as well as general aircraft systems.

Tech I–Master Technician tracks describe progression from 0-2 to 6+ years of avionics experience. A High School diploma or equivalent is required; electronics or avionics training is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; electronics/avionics training preferred.
  • Driver's license valid for airline travel and/or passport ideal but not mandatory.
  • 0-2 years in avionics, military avionics or electrical field for Tech I.
  • 2-4 years for Tech II; 4-6 years for Tech III; 6+ years for Master Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair avionics units to component level.
  • Perform general avionics support like removal/installation of panels and components.
  • Inspect and evaluate aircraft and components; verify systems performance.
  • Coordinate with customers on project management, pricing and support.
  • Communicate effectively in English and use basic computer systems.

Our weekend Shift schedule is Friday-Sunday, 6am-6:30pm. The shift incentive includes an 11.11% shift differential and 3 day workweek.

What you can expect as an Avionics Maintenance Technician at West Star:

Our Avionics Maintenance Technicians are responsible for troubleshooting and repairing problems to the component level on avionics units (i.e. Navs, Coms, Pulse, Radar, Audio and Autopilot Systems), as well as the aircraft systems.

You Will Be ESSENTIAL To Many FUNCTIONS Including

  • Perform general avionics support items on aircraft. This shall include, but not be limited to items such as removal and installation of panels and components and repair work.
  • Troubleshooting and evaluation of systems on the aircraft when designated.
  • Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components when designated.
  • Aircraft movement and performance verification of systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling to support operations.
  • Work with customer in project management, pricing and customer support roles.
  • Work independently on projects.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases

Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you:

A High school diploma or equivalent. Electronics or Avionics factory training is preferred. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience

Tech I

0-2 years of experience in avionics, military avionics or electrical field

These technicians have very limited to no knowledge of the position

This level requires close supervision and constant check ins on work performance

Tech II

2-4 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field.

Considerable knowledge of the job with a broad understanding of detailed aspects

Will need general supervision and instructions

Tech III

4-6 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field.

Full knowledge of the job and complete understanding of detailed aspects

Limited supervision is required.

No instruction needed and can act as a trainer or mentor to other technicians

Master Technician

6+ years’ experience with corporate/business avionics systems

Exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job

This technician is a subject matter expert with a wide and comprehensive knowledge of the job.

Your Initiative

We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common. Dealing with customers and the capacity to perform work with minimal supervision will also be required.

Your Sense Of Responsibility

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.

Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.

Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.

Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.

Maintain customer oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements

Lifts 50 lbs.

Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.

Standing for long periods of time.

Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas

Basic computer skills

Mental Requirements

Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.

Troubleshoot, evaluate and perform functional tests for various avionics and instrument systems.

Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision

Work under supervision of assigned Avionics Team Leader

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.

Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.

Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.

Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.

Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.

Crimpers, soldering iron and heat guns.
