MissionHires is looking for an Avionics Hardware Engineer on behalf of a modern defense production company developing and manufacturing long-range hypersonic strike systems for the U.S. military. This hands-on role will own mission-critical avionics circuit card assemblies from requirements and design through bring-up, qualification, and production supporting real flight hardware and full-rate manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
- Own the full hardware design lifecycle for avionics circuit card assemblies, including requirements definition, schematic design, PCB layout, board bring-up, debugging, qualification, and production support.
- Design complex mixed-signal and high-speed digital PCBs incorporating processors, memory, Ethernet, power electronics, sensor and actuator interfaces, and backplanes.
- Develop, test, verify, and iterate hardware designs against system and product requirements.
- Integrate qualified avionics hardware into the overall vehicle and support hardware readiness for manufacturing and full-rate production.
- Partner with supply chain teams on component selection, procurement, supplier relationships, and design-for-manufacturability considerations.
- Build and scale hardware test environments, including test racks, fixtures, and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to troubleshoot complex board-level issues and make well-supported design decisions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5-8 years of electrical hardware design experience, including end-to-end PCB design and hardware development.
- Demonstrated ownership of the complete hardware design cycle, from requirements through qualification and production.
- Experience designing complex high-speed, mixed-signal PCBs.
- Hands-on experience with PCB design and schematic capture tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or similar tools.
- Experience with high-speed digital design involving processors, memory, Ethernet, and related interfaces.
- Experience with power electronics and mixed-signal circuit design.
- Strong hands-on board bring-up, debugging, test, and verification skills.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, semiconductor, or another relevant hardware-intensive industry.
- Experience developing hardware test infrastructure, such as test racks, fixtures, or hardware-in-the-loop environments.
- Python experience is preferred.
- Must be a U.S. person; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
- Must be able to work on-site five days per week.
- Must be motivated to work on defense and weapons systems.
Benefits:
- Base salary range of $150,000-$200,000 per year, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.
- Competitive equity package.
- End-to-end ownership of avionics hardware that serves as a mission-critical subsystem of flight vehicles.
- Opportunity to work on real flight hardware progressing into production, including programs with demonstrated customer demand.
- High-impact role with ownership across qualification, integration, and full-rate manufacturing.
- Work alongside a high-caliber engineering team in a fast-moving, responsibility-driven environment.
