Job summary

Springfield School District 186 is seeking an AVID Associate / Tutor to support middle and high school students in an AJID-focused tutoring program located at District 186 offices in Springfield, IL. This is a full-time position with flexible days per year and up to 6 hours per day, based on availability.

Responsibilities include tutoring in small groups, evaluating student materials, and guiding concept-focused tutorials.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Requires tutors to participate in AVID curriculum training online.
• Must be willing to meet regularly to discuss student progress and concerns.
• Requires the ability to effectively work with students of diverse backgrounds.
• Keeps informed of and adheres to school regulations and policies.
• Be flexible in meeting the needs of the school.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance for each tutoring session.
• Strong math and science backgrounds preferred.
• Current university or college students or some college experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in small study groups and assist them in all subject areas relevant to them and determine concepts that need to be re-taught.
• Evaluate student binders, calendars, class and Cornell notes, learning logs, etc.
• Conduct brainstorming and clustering sessions.
• Conduct and determine concepts that need to be focused upon in tutorial sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
