Job summary

Responsibilities

• Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs and performs maintenance operations on college training aircraft in accordance with FAA regulations and appropriate technical manuals.
• Performs major and minor repairs and alterations on aircraft parts and components.
• Assists in documenting aircraft repairs and inspections and revising required information in aircraft logbooks.
• Assists in determining required replacement and repair parts and providing aviation department staff with necessary information for requisition and purchasing process.
• Assists in storage, maintenance and inventory of replacement parts, specialized tools and ground support equipment.
• Researches and ensures compliance with appropriate Airworthiness Directives for aircraft, power plants, propellers and accessories.
• Helps other mechanics in maintenance and repair procedures.
• Helps to maintain work area in an organized and clean condition to promote efficient and safe maintenance and repair operations

Job description

The job of Aircraft Mechanic is a full-time position working under the supervision of the Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor and requires considerable specialized mechanical skills and aptitude. The individual will assist in the inspection, maintenance and repair of college aircraft as an integral component of a safe and efficient flight training operation.

High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree in Aviation from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education is preferred.

Current FAA Airframe and Power Plant Certificate is required. Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred. One year aircraft maintenance experience preferred. FAA Private Pilot Certificate highly preferred. Knowledge of FAA FAR Part 141 Flight School operations preferred.

• Ability to read and understand appropriate manuals, schematics and technical information necessary to adequately perform duties.
• Ability to interpret governmental regulations and manufactures’ technical publications and data and other published data regarding aircraft of various types.
• Must be able to perform a variety of specialized mechanical and physical jobs in a manner consistent with top quality and efficiency. Must be able to follow verbal and detailed written instructions.
• Must be able to work independently in the performance of assigned duties with a minimum of supervision.
• Ability to rest, analyze and identify problems in the mechanical operation of aircraft.
• Must be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
