Job summary

Constellation Energy Corp. in Lusby, Maryland seeks a Plant Operator to perform operational activities in the nuclear station under direct supervision.

You will start, stop, test and operate pumps, valves, switchgear, and other components of the systems while following procedures and safety rules. This role requires POSS/BMST tests and nuclear access, with a technical degree or equivalent power-industry experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Nuclear POSS test and BMST are required.
  • Bachelor's or an associate degree in a technical discipline is acceptable.
  • 45 credit hours focused on math/physics/engineering may qualify.

Responsibilities

  • Start, stop, adjust, test and operate pumps, valves, switchgear, controls and other components of systems.
  • Assist shift supervision in directing and coordinating personnel.
  • During reactor refueling, operate controls and monitor radiation instruments.
  • Implement tagging and system out-of-service requests and realign valves/breakers.
  • Initiate Emergency Plan per procedures and assist in refueling as needed.
  • Monitor recorders and indicators in the control room and ensure operation within limits.
  • Operate station communications and participate in the station fire brigade as needed.
  • Follow NRC procedures including log turnovers and corrective action processes.
  • Control and monitor nuclear reactor and auxiliary systems as required for plant operations.

Education

Salary starts at $48.51/hour

Primary Purpose of Position

Under direct supervision, performs operational activities including log taking, equipment evaluation, system valve alignments, system operations, system tag outs and all related administrative duties.


Primary Duties and Accountabilities


  • As directed, starts, stops, adjusts, tests and operates pumps, valves, switchgear, controls and other components of systems.

  • Assists shift supervision in the performance of any and all of the duties involved in directing and coordinating the actions of the other personnel assigned to assist in operation of the station. equipment as required.

  • During refueling of the reactor, manipulates controls, drives, etc. and observes nuclear and radiation monitoring instruments in accordance with procedural controls.

  • Implements tagging and system out-of-service requests, including directing others to realign valves, rack out breakers and hang tags.

  • Initiates Emergency Plan in accordance with implementing procedure.

  • May be required to assist in refueling.

  • Monitors recorders and indicators within the control room for the nuclear and turbine generator systems for operation within prescribed limits.

  • Obtains overview data and performs various calculations as required by procedure.

  • Operates station communications

  • Participates as a member of station fire brigade and will be required to function as fire brigade leader.

  • Performs operations in accordance with administrative procedures and NRC license including shift turnovers, log maintenance, etc.

  • Regularly and customarily is responsible for the monitoring, control and operation of nuclear station equipment for the control room. This includes the following, together with other related and incidental work: -

  • Required to be familiar with the abnormal operating event procedures and system diagnostic and restoration procedures.

  • Required to be thoroughly familiar with entry conditions and cautions for the emergency operating procedure and the basis of each step in the procedures.

  • Responds to and takes action as required in mitigating consequences of plant transient.

  • Responds to plant indicators and alarms in accordance with plant procedures including identifying those parameters that are indicative of an emergency condition and initiating designated actions.

  • Responsible to identify and correct deficient conditions through the use of the station Corrective Action program, initiating action requests for material condition issues and submitting Procedure change requests.

  • Starts, stops, controls and monitors nuclear reactor and auxiliary reactor systems, as required for plant operations, including taking manual control of equipment as conditions warrant.


Minimum Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Satisfactory completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) test and Basic Math and Science Test (BMST)

  • Nuclear unescorted access

  • And ONE of the following:

  • 1-Year of technical experience, which includes any of the following: work performed in power production, petrochemical or other industrial process plants during operational, maintenance, design, or training activities. Alternate relevant experience examples include operation and maintenance of equipment such as HVAC, electrical and maintenance technicians OR

  • 2-years\' experience in operations or maintenance of a non-generating nuclear power facility (e.g. Navy Nuclear operations or maintenance training/experience or operations or maintenance experience at a DOE facility OR

  • Bachelor\'s degree in technical discipline (engineering, engineering technology, or related science program) OR

  • Associates degree in technical discipline (engineering, engineering technology, or related science program) OR

  • 43 credit hours of post-secondary education of which 75% (at least 8 courses or 32 hours) is advanced math, physics, chemistry and/or engineering/engineering technology
