Western Farmers Electric Cooperative seeks an Auxiliary Operator to assist in all phases of plant operation on rotating shifts. The role monitors and operates auxiliary equipment, performs basic maintenance, and may conduct plant lab tasks as directed.
Responsibilities include recording hourly readings, starting up and shutting down equipment safely, and reporting anomalies. A related degree and willingness to work long hours are preferred; driver’s license required.
Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Auxiliary Operator, assigned to a rotating shift schedule, is responsible for assisting in all phases of plant operation. Incumbent monitors and operates all auxiliary equipment. When necessary, the incumbent may perform plant lab or maintenance activities.

An Associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in power plant operations. Each additional two (2) years of directly related experience may be substituted for one (1) year of education. Knowledge of the principles of power plant operation, including the steam water cycle, basic electricity, hydraulics, and fluid and gas properties is also preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to other employees.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to use a personal computer to access the intranet and Microsoft Office software as required.
This job requires a current driver's license.
Incumbent works a rotating shift schedule or irregular schedule as required and may be required to work overtime and on short notice. May also be required to travel on short notice.
