Job summary

Danbury Hospital seeks an Autopsy Technician to assist pathologists and residents with autopsy procedures. The role involves preparing the body, tools, and autopsy suite, ensuring safe procedures from start to finish, including cleaning and restocking after examinations.

Qualifications

• General understanding of human anatomy
• CT or NYS license preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepares the autopsy suite with all needed instruments and supplies; ensures equipment is functional and logging is accurate
• Verifies patient name and medical record number match records on the body bag and morgue log
• Prepares body for autopsy by removing clothing and positioning for examination
• Performs external examination and measures height; adjusts body positioning as requested
• Performs primary thoracoabdominal incision and removes thoracic/abdominal contents per procedures
• Performs intermastoid coronal incision if needed; removes calvarium and brain; collects samples
• Removes and weighs organs; collects toxicology samples as needed
• Places organs in properly labeled storage containers; stores with specimens in formalin
• Cleans autopsy table and instruments; restocks supplies; maintains autopsy suite
• Maintains organizational values and demonstrates reliable attendance
• Performs other duties as required
