Job summary

York Space Systems is seeking an Autonomy Software Engineer to push the boundaries of onboard autonomy for spacecraft. You will develop embedded flight software in C/C++ for spacecraft systems and translate designs into high-quality software across full-stack and real-time domains.

You will contribute to state machines, autonomy algorithms, and system architecture while collaborating with cross-functional teams on rapid prototyping and de-risking emerging tech.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in CS or related field.
  • 4+ years of software engineering with focus on embedded software.
  • Experience in embedded Linux environments.
  • Experience with modern messaging frameworks and API technologies.
  • Experience with Git in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and drive code quality through reviews.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, design, and operations.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain or hold a security clearance.
  • Willingness to work full-time in Greenwood Village, CO; no remote/hybrid work.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded flight software in C/C++ for spacecraft systems.
  • Translate designs and requirements into high-quality software meeting functional/visual standards.
  • Build reusable code for components, libraries, and scalable services.
  • Construct state machine models for autonomous mission workflows.
  • Engineer algorithms and business logic to promote scalability and automation.
  • Contribute to software architecture, requirements, and interfaces.
  • Support on-orbit operations, debugging, and anomaly resolution.
  • Develop unit tests and documentation for internal users and customers.
  • Develop integration tests against simulation tools to validate behavior.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
  • Other duties as assigned
