Job summary

Waymo LLC in Mountain View, CA is seeking a software engineering intern to contribute to the Waymo Driver stack, working on perception, decision-making, and real-time safety-critical software.

You will write clean C++ code, participate in large-scale simulations, and collaborate with researchers and hardware teams. Applicants should be pursuing an MS or PhD in CS, Robotics, EE, or related field, and have solid fundamentals in data structures and algorithms.

Qualifications

• Solid foundational understanding of core CS principles, including data structures, algorithms, and computational complexity.
• Experience programming in C++ with clean and efficient code.
• Currently enrolled in an MS or PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• BS in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Currently enrolled in an MS or PhD program in similar fields.
• Experience developing software for safety-critical, fault-tolerant, or real-time systems.
• Proven ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable C++ code in a large-scale codebase.
• Experience with large-scale data/ML applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement onboard C++ logic governing how the Waymo Driver interacts with traffic controls.
• Validate software changes with large-scale simulation suites to evaluate safety, rule compliance, among a multitude of metrics before deployment.
• Write clean, tested, production-grade code adhering to rigorous code review standards and continuous integration testing.
