Job summary

Role

Defines, designs, develops, and supports connectivity solutions enabling connected machines, digital services, remote operations, and autonomous systems. Provides technical leadership across networking, edge computing, cloud connectivity, telemetry, and data pipeline architectures. Leads technical design, implementation, validation, and operational support of connectivity platforms while influencing architecture decisions and engineering best practices.

What You Will Do:
  • Leads the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of connectivity solutions across machine, site, edge, and cloud environments.
  • Develops software and infrastructure supporting machine telemetry, remote monitoring, autonomous operations, and digital services.
  • Evaluates and implements connectivity technologies including cellular (LTE/5G), satellite communications (Starlink), Wi‑Fi, edge computing, and industrial networking solutions.
  • Designs reliable and scalable telemetry and data transport architectures from machines and edge devices to enterprise cloud platforms.
  • Collaborates with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Leads technical investigations and root cause analysis for connectivity, networking, and data pipeline issues.
  • Establishes engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices for connectivity solutions.
  • Reviews solution architectures and provides recommendations regarding scalability, resiliency, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Mentors engineers and contributes technical leadership across project teams.
  • Supports integration of connectivity solutions with cloud platforms, data services, cybersecurity requirements, and enterprise systems.
  • Identifies emerging technologies and recommends innovations that improve platform capability and customer value.
What You Will Have:
Connectivity Systems Engineering
  • Demonstrates expertise in connectivity technologies including cellular, satellite communication, edge computing, and industrial networking.
  • Designs and implements resilient communication architectures for distributed systems.
  • Evaluates connectivity technologies based on reliability, cost, scalability, and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoots complex networking and communications issues across multiple technology stacks.
  • Provides technical leadership for connectivity platform development.
Software Product Design / Architecture
  • Demonstrates experience designing large-scale distributed systems and connectivity platforms.
  • Understands architectural patterns supporting edge-to-cloud communications.
  • Leads architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Evaluates tradeoffs involving performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Guides implementation of reusable and maintainable software solutions.
Cloud & Data Pipeline Engineering

Designs telemetry ingestion, processing, and data distribution architectures.

  • Develops solutions supporting real‑time and batch data processing.
  • Understands event‑driven systems, streaming platforms, and cloud‑native architectures.
  • Collaborates with enterprise data teams to ensure high‑quality data delivery and observability.
  • Optimizes data flows between machines, edge devices, and cloud systems.
Technical Excellence
  • Provides innovative solutions to challenging technical problems.
  • Maintains expertise in current and emerging technologies.
  • Applies engineering standards and best practices to solution development.
  • Leads technical reviews and provides guidance to development teams.

Top Candidate Will Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, connectivity engineering, network engineering, cloud engineering, or distributed systems.
  • Experience with:
    • Starlink and satellite communications
    • LTE, LTE‑M, NB‑IoT, and 5G technologies
    • Private LTE or Private 5G environments
    • Telematics platforms and connected assets
    • Edge computing solutions
    • Cloud‑native application architectures
    • Messaging and event streaming platforms
    • IoT device management and telemetry systems
  • Experience designing and supporting large‑scale data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with autonomous systems, remote operations, and industrial IoT environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex technical initiatives and mentoring engineering teams.

Additional Details:

  • This position requires the candidate to work full‑time at our Irving, Texas office.
  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

  • This position may require up to 20% travel

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $208,770.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
