Job summary

Atlas Relief in Craven County, NC seeks a dependable ER Relief Veterinarian to cover long-term maternity leave beginning February 2027. The hybrid hospital runs GP by day and ER overnight, offering autonomy in overnight ER work with a strong technician team.

Applicants must hold a DVM/VMD and NC license, have solid emergency skills, and be comfortable sole-doctor on shift. Exotics welcome; strong client communication required.

Qualifications

• DVM or VMD from AVMA-accredited university.
• Active North Carolina veterinary license or eligibility.
• Strong emergency and critical care skillset.
• Able to work as the sole doctor on shift.
• Willing to examine exotic patients; prior exotics experience not required.
• Comfortable discussing treatment plans and financing with clients.
• Sharp communication and composure under pressure.
• Able to lift 40+ pounds.

Responsibilities

• Cover overnight ER shifts Tuesday–Sunday, plus Sunday daytime (24-hr).
• Manage a varied overnight emergency caseload including stabilization and surgery (pyometras, C-sections, foreign bodies).
• Be the sole doctor on shift, supported by a tiered technician team.
• Examine and treat exotic patients as needed.
• Discuss treatment options and financing with budget-conscious clients.
