Job summary

Lilly invites engineers and scientists to join an on-site Automation AI Scientist role in Silicon Valley. You will own the decision layer for autonomous lab experiments, building agentic systems that plan, execute, and learn from physical experiments with scientists involved where judgment matters.

You will prototype rapidly, productionize successful ideas, and lead a small team of scientist-engineers, partnering with chemists, biologists, and NVIDIA counterparts to accelerate

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with relevant field required; strong background in AI/decision systems preferred.
• 5+ years applying AI/algorithmic decision systems, including production or internship experience.
• At least 1 year of direct people management experience.

Responsibilities

• Design multi-agent systems with robust orchestration and state management for lab workflows.
• Implement active learning, Bayesian optimization, and reinforcement learning for autonomous experiments.
