Job summary

FirstPrinciples is a global nonprofit launching a Research Fellowship Program for advanced AI and physics researchers. Fellows will work with the Research and Engineering teams to design and implement state-of-the-art methods integrated into the AI Physicist system.

This fully remote 6–12 month fellowship offers a fixed stipend, with fellows delivering code, models, and other outputs to production-ready results.

Qualifications

• PhD or postdoc in CS/ML/Physics or closely related field.
• Ability to operate independently and own a problem end-to-end.
• Willingness to translate abstract theory into computable systems.
• Comfort with exploratory, incomplete results.

Responsibilities

• Own a well-scoped research direction contributing to the AI Physicist's reasoning.
• Research, design, and test novel model architectures that combine literature, NLP, symbolic reasoning, and structured workflows.
• Prototype embeddings for physical concepts and mathematical objects for reasoning over equations and constraints.
• Design and run targeted experiments to evaluate new architectural ideas.
