Job summary

Mt. Hood Community College seeks an automotive instructor to teach courses covering engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, HVAC, and emerging vehicle technologies.

You will guide students through theory, diagnostics, repair, and safety in a shop setting, aiming to develop technicians and leaders who meet ASE/NATEF standards. The role requires delivering lectures and hands-on demonstrations, maintaining course materials, and ensuring timely grading and record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in automotive technology or related field.
• Three years of experience as a technician in a dealership and/or independent repair shop.
• Knowledge of current automotive technology, including fuel injection, modern transmissions, emission controls, multiplexing communications, and hybrid/EV technology.

Responsibilities

• Instructs students in classroom and shop using lectures, demonstrations, and guided practice with industry-standard tools.
• Provides student contact before or after class, during office hours, email, or other communications methods.
• Prepares and shares course materials including syllabi, demonstrations, videos, and handouts, with multiple learning paths.
• Structures classes and curriculum to align with program objectives and maintain currency.
• Maintains classroom, laboratory, and departmental equipment and ensures security of facilities and materials.
• Convenes classes on time and as scheduled.
• Implements grading practices that emphasize learning and growth and allow recovery opportunities.
• Maintains evaluation and grading records and submits grades per College timelines.
• Implements, models, and teaches safe shop operations with clear safety protocols aligning to OSHA and industry standards.
